Happy Earth Day 2022! For the re-staging of Mission-to-Mission Gabe and the team at ActiveSGV committed to making the first 626 Golden Streets in three years our most sustainable event to date. In addition to highlighting sustainability-focused organizations, small businesses, and community groups, Mission-to-Mission 2022 will integrate a number of steps to improve upon the 2019 event. In the downtown Alhambra Hub, where there is no access to power in the City right-of-way, a zero-emission, solar-battery trailer will be utilized to power the main stage and all live performances. Perhaps just an exciting, the vendor ActiveSGV is renting the trailer from - Aztlan Athletics - purchased it as a result of our request, and has already begun employing it for all their community events. Aztlan's solar-battery trailer is also now available for members of the community to rent as part of their suite of event support services. Another first, each activity hub will incorporate some of the latest and greatest, non-polluting, zero-emission technology, allowing the public to see, touch, and feel some of the latest electric technology. Foothill Transit is bringing one of its new, first-in-the-USA, double-decker, electric buses for the public to step aboard (Alhambra Hub). AGZA will showcase an array of all-electric yard equipment at Alhambra Park. Electric vehicle startup IndiEV will display its crossover EV in downtown Alhambra. ActiveSGV will utilize its upcycled, all-electric, solar-powered, formerly gas-powered, cargo van to transport e-bikes to the event and power a DJ along the route (Alhambra Park). The vehicle was recently purchased to support the GoSGV electric bike share program, which will offer free test rides in each activity hub. Speaking of E-bikes, Propel Bikes (South Pasadena hub) and Stan's Bike Shop (San Gabriel Hub) will be on hand with innovative cargo e-bikes and small electric vehicles, respectively. The team at ActiveSGV has also upped its commitment to reducing waste by promoting reusables. Vendors will not permitted to distribute single-use plastic from their booths. Reusable utensil sets including a bamboo fork, knife, spoon, and chopsticks will be raffled off to survey participants, opening ceremony attendees, and event volunteers. Event marketing and promotion will also include reminders for the public to bring their own cup/bottle to the event. As always, attendees are strongly encouraged to travel to the event via foot, bike, skate, scooter, and/or public transit. Children four or under ride free on Metro buses and trains, and bikes and scooters may be brought on board at no extra cost.
